When God Calls You to do the Impossible

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

I remember the day that God called me to Africa. It has been burned into my mind, my soul, and my heart… I will never forget that day! Although I remember it clearly and know that God is in control of all things… it was a dream that was impossible for me to fulfill. Did you catch that statement! It was a dream that was impossible for ME to fulfill!! To the world’s eyes I was crazy… to my family I was selfish… to my Christian friends it was a nice dream… only to my close Christian friends was it something God could do.  I thought I had unshakable faith to take the first step to go to Africa! Boy, I was so wrong about that… my faith was nowhere near what it had to be to step out on this shaky ground of believing. Yes to me, it was a shaky ground, but to God it was a strong firm ground built on His Word!!!

So many mountains stood in my way to achieving what God was calling me to do. When you answer God’s call, you have to be prepared for two things to happen. First one is: you have to allow God to mold you into the person you need to be for the impossible task ahead. This is not easy my friends… to tell you the truth it hurts!! God is cutting out the things you though were important, the things that cling to your heart, the things that are sucking the life out of you, and the things that just need to be heal! He will open up old wounds that you thought were healed and let them bleed all over again! There will be days that will be hard to get out of bed because of all the pressure and the negative that is around you. The pressure of God working inside you, and you just have to breath and let him work… there were days and still are days where I cry to work, at work, and home from work because of a deep agony that is there. You don’t know why you are crying other than God is working inside of you. This is when the faith muscle starts to work… slowly at first.. by getting out of bed and head into work instead of hiding under the covers and pretending that you didn’t hear God’s calling. God calls you to obey Him in the small things, which turns into a fancy footwork of dances into faith. Remember just a small amount of faith can move the mountains.

Jesus spoke the verse above to encourage us, when we hear God’s calling. Let’s take a step back to the famous Noah!!! He walked with God, he was righteous before him, but do you think he wrestled with God’s calling on his life? You bet he did! Why do you think it took him 120 years to build the ark? God was building his faith through the years! Remember God told Noah that He was going to flood the earth with rain. Wait a minute… with what? Rain you say God… What is rain? Yes, Noah and his family and most of the world at the time, did not know what the meaning of the word rain was? God watered the earth through the ground, never had there been rain before! So sit back and think about that… God called Noah to build an Ark because God was going to flood the earth with rain. Talk about impossible task! And then think about all those years Noah obey and God build Noah’s faith through this. I know.. I know… you are not Noah and either am I. But think about what God has called you to do!

The second thing you have to be prepared for is Satan’s schemes. You have to embrace the fact that Satan does not like you following God and do His work. You have to understand that Satan will try everything in his power to throw you off that path. Things of discouragement… distractions… guilt… and sin will be thrown into your path to make you stumble and give up. Some of the most important people in our lives are the people who did not give up in the race! But also think of all the people who could have change the world for God if they had not given up on God’s plan. When you make the choice to follow God’s plan, you put a big bullseye on your back for Satan to throw his arrows at you. The best part of it is Jesus died on the cross for you and me and defied Satan! So you are the one that allows the arrows to pierce your heart, or do you put your armor on and march forward in Faith. Satan’s schemes will only work if you allow them too! The choice is yours!

Which brings us back to the calling that I received few months ago. Yes, I still struggled to take the steps of faith, but not as much as I did before. I don’t fight God anymore when he wants me to give him things that I thought were important to me. And getting out of bed is still a struggle, but I can tell you that I have peace and joy in my heart when I do. When I stop focusing on the big picture and the big mountains in front of me, and focus on the small steps that God places in front me I start seeing His hands in everything. I start seeing him carrying me forward and building my faith. Once in a while He allows me to look up to see how far I am up the mountain, and one day in the near future I will be on the top of it and looking down thanking God for all that he has done. My question to you is are you ready to embrace the calling that God has on your life, or is the couch more comfortable?
